Onsite Backups

The standard approach to backing up business data is to use tape based technology. This technology relies on human intervention (someone must remember to change the tape) and unreliable media (tapes become corrupt).

In order to recover data from tape you must be confident that the last backup was successful (otherwise you are going to experience data loss) and also accept that the time it takes to recover is going to impact your business while your server is down for repair. On average, if you were to experience a major server outage, it would take 2 days to fully recover the server, using tape base technology.
